The Challenge For Softech

The challenge presented by the first deployment of the Network Rail Traffic Management (TM) solution was significant, involving the planned transition of two Route Operation Centres (ROCs) located in Cardiff and Upminster IECC control area to the Romford ROC in London. This transition necessitated the correlation of all scheme plans across this expansive area within constrained time and resources. Managing this coordination effectively posed a formidable challenge, requiring meticulous planning and execution to ensure a seamless integration of control functions despite the complexity of the task.

Softech’s Solutions

Softech tackled the daunting task of correlating a vast area within a tight timeframe for the production of Scheme Plans for Cardiff and Upminster. Leveraging our expertise, we conducted a thorough desktop exercise to cross-reference signalling plans with Omnicom videos and the latest VDU maps. This meticulous process ensured the verification of chainages and equipment accuracy before generating the Scheme Plans and fringe designs, enabling us to deliver results in record time.

Our proactive approach and attention to detail played a pivotal role in overcoming the challenge and ensuring the seamless execution of this critical project.

The Result

The Traffic Management system (TMS) is a dispatch management and Signalling control system that allows early identification and resolution of conflicts on the rail network caused by perturbations on the railways. This also mean fewer delays to trains and passengers. Network Rail envisage the twelve ROCs to be controlling the entire network by 2058.
