The Challenge For Softech

Under the government’s Access for All (AfA) programme, aimed at enhancing station’s accessibility, Barnes station was required to facilitate with the provision of step-free access, particularly benefiting passengers with reduced mobility, young children in prams, or those laden with luggage. A critical component of this endeavour was ensuring an unobstructed and obstacle-free ‘accessible route’ at Barnes station within the Network Rail controlled infrastructure. This necessitated the relocation of existing cable routes (Signalling, Telecoms and Power) to accommodate the proposed lift infrastructure for step-free access on platforms. Installation, Testing and Commissioning.

Softech’s Solutions

Softech expertly diverted existing cable routes, including signalling, power, data and Telecoms cables to make way for the new infrastructure. This intricate task involved replacing these cables with new ones and diverting them to newly installed ducts outside the footprints of lift shafts.

From Surveys & initial design to Installation, testing and commissioning, Softech managed the entire process with precision and efficiency. Despite the complexity of the project, Softech successfully adhered to the fixed timeline, ensuring timely completion and handover of the work.

The Result

We installed new cable ducts strategically outside the footprints of the proposed infrastructure to facilitate the diversion of cables. New cables were laid according to the detailed design specifications, ensuring proper alignment and functionality. We implemented rigorous testing and commissioning procedures to verify the effectiveness and reliability of the new infrastructure.
