The Challenge For Softech

The work entailed the construction of a new lift tower at platform 1, machine room and stairs to facilitate seamless accessibility within the station premises. Additionally, our commitment extended to the design of new Station Information and Security Systems (SISS) assets, including CIS, CCTV, PA (Public Address), and Autodialler systems. One of the most challenging aspects of this endeavor was addressing the existing obsolete systems. Many of the systems currently in operation exceeded 20 years in service and were deemed expired and no longer supported by the manufacturer, necessitating careful planning and strategic implementation to ensure seamless integration of the new assets.

Softech’s Solutions

Softech performed the ES4 Telecoms design for North Hertford station. We began with a detailed site survey, documenting infrastructure intricacies and compiling a comprehensive report on proposed alterations. Our design, aligning with Network Rail standards, prioritised an unobstructed “accessible route”.

criss crossed rail alignment design engineered by a railway pway design team

We proposed enhancements, particularly between the car park and lift entrance, for improved accessibility and efficiency. Post-IDC, our designs received approval without comments, reflecting our precision. Additionally, we developed a meticulous test and commissioning plan, ensuring seamless installation phases.

The Result

Foremost among these advantages is the significant increase in connectivity and the subsequent reduction in traffic congestion. By enhancing transportation infrastructure, the project not only facilitates smoother movement but also opens up new avenues for commuting, particularly under the AfA initiative.
