The Challenge For Softech

A new phase in passenger service was inaugurated with the introduction of 9-car FLU 345 trains operating on the eastern route, specifically from London Liverpool Street to Shenfield station. In response to this, a dedicated project was initiated to improve the operational efficiency and to reduce costs, by enabling Driver Only Operation (DOO). New Train Ready to Start (TRTS) Plungers were provided across all platforms at Shenfield station (Platforms 1 to 6) for bi-directional trains.

Softech’s Solutions

This comprehensive project involves the relocation of Banner Repeater and associated CD/RA indicators to improve visibility and ensure optimal safety measures. The planning and development of options were meticulously carried out during ES4 following detailed site surveys and signal sighting. Detailed designs were produced during ES5, including installation, testing and commissioning plans for ES6-8.

criss crossed rail alignment design engineered by a railway pway design team

Softech executed the installation phase with precision, adhering to approved designs and safety standards to ensure efficient implementation of project components. We conducted thorough testing and commissioning activities within the designated timeframe and possession limits, ensuring the functionality and reliability of the installed systems.

The Result

This strategic enhancement ensured the smooth functioning and efficiency of the new 9-car FLU 345 service. All operation of all newly installed TRTS plungers were to be managed by the train drivers associated with the recently introduced service.

Feedback

“Softech team and CREs were highly experienced …pro-actively worked on this project, for not only design but installation too. This allowed for a timely and efficient resolution.”

Sam Adams

“Softech was pro-active in collaborating with all stakeholders including Network Rail and Train Operators to create Operational Requirement Specification. This gave a clarity of the scope which was very sketchy before Softech was on board.”
