GRIP stage 4 (Single Option Development)

Client: Jacobs

Date: November 2008

Project Overview

Battersea Park station is a Junction between the main Victoria to Brighton lines and South London lines which was also used as a diversionary line for South Eastern trains between Shepherds Lane Junction and Victoria, and located at 1 mile 23 chains. Battersea Park is a 3rd rail electrified area. The ECO operator was Lewisham at the time of this project.

The running speed at Battersea Park station was 45 mph in general. The requirement of this project was to achieve full 10 car and ultimately 12 car operation at the next stage of the development on the South London Line suburban routes operating into and out of London Victoria station to the South to address the growth which was forecast in the South London Route Utilisation Strategy (SL RUS).

To this end, the platform extensions was planned firstly for 10 car trains but passive provision were to be made for the use of 12 car platform extensions wherever possible.

This project was completed within limited time constraint to achieve commissioning as per fixed deadline.

Softech design team investigated options to extend the length of platforms 3 & 4 at Battersea Park to accommodate 10 car train of class 377 rolling stock. A preliminary option study has been carried out and sketches were prepared for the options along with the feasibility study.
