Project Overview
The scope of work was the combination of a re-signalling scheme, the requirement to replace life expired permanent way, to improve the operational functionality and capacity in the area around Stalybridge Station. These improvements included remodelling of the track layout at Stalybridge Junction and Stalybridge Tunnel Junction with the line speed between Stalybridge Junction and Stalybridge Tunnel Junction increased to 50mph and an increase in crossover route speeds from 15mph to 25mph.
Under this scheme, track layout alterations required removing the existing goods lines and provided an additional west facing bay platform and through platform line.
A new free-wired Route Relay Interlocking was provided at Stalybridge to replace the existing electro-mechanical signal box.
Part of the re-signalling project was to provide a new control system for the Stalybridge, Guide Bridge and Ashburys areas located in the existing Manchester South Signalling Control Centre at Stockport (Edgeley) with capacity to control Ashton Moss North Junction Baguley Fold, Diggle Junction, Denton Junction, Dinting and Romiley in the future.
Softech provided the design support for GRIP 5 stage.
